MUSTED HD | Precise evidence-based treatments
Mustec HD | Muscle strength dynamometer
The Mustec HD is the rugged handheld dynamometer for muscle testing, evaluation and analysis, designed for use by physical therapists, chiropractors, medical researchers and sports doctors, among others. This muscle strength tester combines instant accuracy, comfort and excellent value for money.
The Mustec HD was developed in the Netherlands for musculoskeletal therapists worldwide, allowing immediate and precise results, as well as offering ergonomic and comfortable use of the device.
Includes three additional accessories and a powerful, complementary software option that automatically collects valuable data and in-depth analysis of the patient's muscle strength over time.
To a physical therapist, a Mustec HD is like a stethoscope to a doctor.
How to use it?
Handheld precision muscle strength testing technology
Globally, there are 84 different chronic muscle disorders and a wide variety of muscle-related diagnoses that require specific treatments. The Mustec HD dynamometer is an exceptionally accurate measurement device, providing quantifiable data to diagnose, analyze, predict and treat neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disorders. The device measures the maximum force of the patient's muscle, as well as the period of time during which that force is maintained.
The Mustec HD improves clinical best practices as therapists can offer more precise and efficient treatments, backed by evidence.
Accurate and effective measurements
In addition to effectively making precise measurements, the wireless electronic device is extremely practical, ergonomic and lightweight. A physical therapist can easily take you to different work spaces. This innovative device accurately records and displays the maximum force and time (in seconds) exerted on a transducer. Forces are measured in a range of 0.1 pounds to 300 pounds, and can be displayed in pounds (Lbs), kilos (Kg), and newtons (N), in increments of 0.1 units.
The Mustec HD includes three accessories:
Two ergonomically shaped to ensure painless contact with the skin, and one for pain points. The latter measures pain, which is typically a subjective experience, unless measured and quantified by the Mustec HD.
____PH_136681_4f7da176_ Health professionals evaluate skeletal muscle functions through isometric muscle strength measurements.
User specialties, listed in random order and without limitations, include:

MUSTED HD| THE OBJECTIVE
Integrate, strengthen and improve clinical and academic experience in the field of physical medicine.
The use of the Mustec HD provides credible value for various purposes:

Two comparable measurement methods are recommended:
For both methods, the measurement time (in seconds) can also be indicated. The display shows the duration the force is maintained, reflecting strength and coordination. It is important to note that, in both cases, the optional software records the entire sequence on a graph: the accumulation of force, the maintenance and the release
Units of Measurement:Newtons, pounds or kilos. Although Newtons are more commonly documented in most professions.
Protocols (Standard Muscle Movements)
Standardization is required to obtain valid and reliable results, minimizing possible errors.
The "maintenance" and "break" tests can be applied to various movement exercises, as deemed appropriate by the therapist. Each professional develops their standard protocol, but below are some movement options.
Note:These standard movements are based on common muscle dysfunctions. For more information, consult A.W. Andrews (1996) and Bohannon (1997), who also provide normative values for most movements. (Also check out our optional Mustec HD software, which allows you to enter your own standard muscle movements.)
SHOULDER
Flexion
The patient lies on his back, with the arm extended toward the ceiling, elbow extended, and hand in a neutral position. The therapist places a hand on the patient's shoulder and positions the Mustec HD on the biceps, just below the elbow.
Extension
Same position, but with the elbow flexed at 90°. The therapist's hand on the shoulder and the Mustec HD on the elbow, on the triceps.
Abduction
In supine position, with the arm at a 45° angle to the surface, elbow extended and hand neutral. The Mustec HD is placed just above the elbow, near the triceps.
Lateral Rotation
The patient is supine, with the arm at an angle of 45°, elbow at 90°, hand neutral. The therapist holds the elbow and the Mustec HD is placed on the outside of the wrist.
Medial Rotation
Same positioning, but on the inner side of the wrist.
DOLL
Flexion
Dorsal recumbency, arm extended, hand neutral. The Mustec HD is located on the biceps, just below the elbow.
Extension
Same position, but on the wrist. The Mustec HD on the inside of the wrist.
HIP
Flexion
Dorsal recumbency, hip flexed at 90°, knee relaxed. The Mustec HD is placed on the upper thigh, near the knee.
Abduction
Dorsal recumbency, both legs in neutral position. The Mustec HD is placed below the knee on the opposite leg.
KNEE
Flexion
Sitting, feet hanging, hips and knees at 90°, hands in lap. The Mustec HD is placed on the back of the ankle.
Extension
Same positioning, but on the front of the ankle.
ANKLE
Dorsiflexion
Dorsal recumbency, leg and foot in neutral position, with the foot on the edge of the table. The Mustec HD is placed on the foot, between the ankle and toes.
Plantiflexion
Same position, but on the sole of the foot, with the Mustec HD on the ball of the foot.
NECK
Flexion
Sitting, with arms at your sides and hands in your lap, head upright. The Mustec HD is placed on the forehead, with the lower part aligned with the eyebrows. The patient moves his chin toward his chest.
Extension
Sitting, in a similar position, but with the Mustec HD at the back of the head, in line with the ears. The patient looks up toward the ceiling.
