The ready-to-use creatine kinase (or creatine kinase) test in round cuvettes offers a simple and reliable method for the determination of creatine kinase (CK) in serum or plasma.

Using the UV test method, as amended by the IFCC, this test allows for accurate analysis of CK values, providing important information on muscle and heart function.

These ready-to-use tests are designed specifically for capillary blood samples and can only be performed with Diaglobal photometers.

These tests provide a rapid and effective way to monitor CK levels in clinical diagnosis and allow accurate evaluation of muscle and heart diseases.

    What is Creatine Kinase (CK)?

Creatine Kinase (CK), or Creatine Kinase, is a key enzyme for energy production in high-demand tissues such as muscles, heart and brain, helping to convert creatine into rapid energy (ATP) for muscle contraction.

A CK test measures its levels in the blood to diagnose muscle, heart or brain damage, rising after injuries, heart attacks, or certain muscle diseases such as dystrophies, although intense exercise can also temporarily increase it.

    Function and types

Function: Creates a reservoir of quick energy (ATP) for cells, especially during intense efforts.

Isoenzymes: There are three main types, depending on the tissue:

    - CK-MM: Predominates in skeletal muscle.

    - CK-MB: Mainly in cardiac muscle (infarction).

    - CK-BB: In brain and smooth muscle.

    When is it measured?

    - To investigate symptoms such as pain, muscle weakness, cramps, or falls.

    - After injuries (burns, crushes) or events such as a stroke.

    - To monitor muscle diseases (myopathies) or heart.

    - Strenuous exercise (marathons) temporarily raises CK, which is normal.

    High results (High CK)

    - Muscle injury: Muscle pain, weakness, dark urine (due to myoglobin).

    - Heart problems: If CK-MB is elevated, it suggests damage to the heart, such as a heart attack.

    - Other causes: Hypothyroidism, alcohol consumption, certain drugs (statins).

In summary, CK is a sensitive marker of tissue damage with high energy demand, and its blood level helps doctors identify the cause of various health problems.
